Fortuna Police Chief Presents Plaque to Fortuna Volunteer Firefighters

Fortuna Police Chief Bill Dobberstein presented a plaque, praising the Fortuna Volunteer Firefighters, to Fire Chief Lon Winburn at Monday night’s City Council Meeting.

According to Chief Dobberstein, “Our police department often receives more from them, than they do from us.” He went on to explain the many things that the Fortuna Fire Department does to assist Fortuna Police including providing a venue for many of their regional conferences, and advance training.

He added, “We know that our firefighters often respond to medical calls as the first on the scene, and often rush into the face of danger whenever there is a fire, a major accident, or a hazardous materials spill.

But we often depend on them for the seemingly trivial, but dangerous task of traffic control, or helping lift a citizen who has fallen in their home and cannot get up. And, they render aid in so very many ways, often without most citizens knowing.”

The plaque that was presented to the Fire Department reads “Fortuna Police gratefully acknowledge the valuable and selfless service provided to our community by the Fortuna Volunteer Fire Department. And, publicly acknowledge, with sincere gratitude, the spirit of cooperation and trust that exists between our two agencies. Thank you to each of you for your assistance and service to our department, and to our community.
