FORTUNA, CA – Officers from the Fortuna Police Department will be deploying officers on a special saturation patrol on Friday night, July 23, 2010 to crack down on drunk driving in the city’s ongoing effort to improve traffic safety, save lives and prevent injuries.

Fortuna AutoXpo 2010 will be starting Friday July 23, 2010 with the Cruise at approximately 6:00 p.m. and will be followed by the AutoXpo Sock Hop at the Fortuna River Lodge. These events will bring a large number of people and vehicles to our community. The Fortuna Police Department would like to remind all drivers and pedestrians to be extra cautious. The Fortuna Police Department would also like to remind you to be safe, smart and responsible, “Designate a sober driver.”

“Enjoy the vehicles and the festivities but don’t drive impaired,” said Sgt. Matthew Eberhardt, Fortuna PD. “If you’re driving impaired Fortuna PD Officers will remove you from the roadways and you will be arrested.”

The DUI Saturation Patrol will deploy within the city limits of Fortuna on Friday night following the AutoXpo Cruise at approximately 8:00 p.m.

Funding for the patrol is through a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
