Safe Routes To School Projects

About the Program

The Safe Routes to School (SRTS) program aims to create safe, convenient, and fun opportunities for children to bicycle and walk to and from schools. The goal is to reverse the decline in children walking and bicycling to schools, increase kids' safety and reverse the alarming nationwide trend toward inactivity.

2015 Safe Routes to School Project

The 2015 SRTS Improvement Project focused on pedestrian, cyclist and traffic safety improvements along Ross Hill Road as well as in the neighborhoods surrounding Toddy Thomas Middle School, Redwood Preparatory Charter School and Ambrosini School. These improvements focused on adding clearly marked crosswalks, continuous sidewalks, and marked bike paths as well as improved signage and street painting for driver visibility.
This project is was completed in summer 2017.
